Chart splits are even pace over 21.0975 km (13.1094 mi). The finish row of each table is the final 0.0975 km or 0.1094 mi. Negative splits are in the calculator. The highlighted pace column follows min/mi or min/km. Copy on a row shares that half marathon finish time. A finish time in the address with d=half, such as t=1-45, marks that row. Split tables load when the row is opened.

How the pace math works

Every result on this site uses the same three relationships. Distances are fixed for the standard races. One mile is 1.609344 kilometers.

Pace formulas
To findFormulaNotes
Pacetime ÷ distanceSeconds per kilometer or per mile
Timepace × distanceFinish time, or the time at any marker
Distancetime ÷ paceHow far a pace takes you in a given time
min/mi from min/kmpace per km × 1.6093441 mile = 1.609344 km
min/km from min/mipace per mile ÷ 1.609344Same constant, the other way
Even splitpace × distance so farCumulative time is rounded to the nearest second
Negative splitfirst half = (T + Δ) / 2, second half = (T − Δ) / 2Δ is how many seconds the second half is faster. The switch is at half the distance.

Questions about the half marathon pace chart

How do I read the half marathon pace chart?

Each row is an even-pace half marathon from 1:00:00 to 3:30:00, five minutes apart — the same step the marathon chart uses. The row shows minutes per mile, minutes per kilometer, and the clock at 5K, 10K, 15K, and 20K. Open a row for every kilometer and every mile over 21.0975 km (13.1094 mi).

What distance is a half marathon on this chart?

A half marathon here is 21.0975 km, or 13.1094 miles. That is exactly half of 42.195 km. Pace is the finish time divided by that distance. The chart does not round the race to 21 km or 13.1 miles.

Why is the last half marathon split 0.0975 km or 0.1094 miles?

After 21 kilometers, 97.5 meters remain. After 13 miles, 0.1094 miles remain. The finish split is that leftover, so the splits add up to the measured half marathon instead of stopping on a round marker.

Are these half marathon splits even pace?

Yes. Every row holds one pace for the whole distance. The marathon pace calculator is where you set a negative split, change the distance, or solve pace from a time you type in. This page is the lookup table.

How does a half marathon time relate to the marathon chart?

The marathon is twice as long, so the same even pace takes twice as long: 1:45:00 on this chart is the same minutes per mile and per kilometer as 3:30:00 on the marathon pace chart. That is distance arithmetic. It is not a forecast of what the longer race will feel like.
